Current Priorities
Douglaston Station Plaza
In February 2014, the Douglaston Local Development Corporation was selected as a partner of the NYC Department of Transport to create a new public space in the Douglaston Village as part of NYC's Plaza Program. The Plaza was installed in July 2014 and formally opened in September 2014. It is open to the public every day (weather permitting) between April and November for events, gatherings or just relaxing in our beautiful community |
Milestones
Douglaston Village Arts Festival
Established in 2009, this annual festival attracts dozens of artists, craftspeople, and photographers to Douglaston Village to display their works to hundreds of NE Queens residents, while all enjoy food and original entertainment provided by local residents and businesses. |
Douglaston Village Visioning
During 2009 and 2010, in a series of public meetings, the DLDC asked residents, landlords and merchants about the sort of future development they would like to see in the Village area. A survey of attendees at the meetings indicated strong community support for retaining the small scale of Village buildings, while broadening the type of goods and fresh produce available for sale from local merchants. |
Douglaston Village Chamber of Commerce
In 2009, numerous merchants in the Village established the Chamber to promote the the economic growth and quality of life in the Douglaston area, while providing a clear and unified voice for the business community. Since it’s formation, the Chamber has begun improvements to the streetscape, and has initiated new Village events including the Dick Lynch Turkey Trot and Community Day. More information on the Chamber is available at www.DouglastonVillageChamberofCommerce.org. |
Weeping Beech and “Flights of Fancy” Fundraisers
In December 2009 and February 2011, the community pledged over $45,000 at two fundraising events intended to support the development of the Village area, including the maintenance of the Weeping Beech tree at the north side of the Village and the funding of the Village Strategic Action Plan. |
Douglaston Green Market
In July 2011, in collaboration with GrowNYC, the Douglaston Village Green Market was launched at the North Side turnaround in Douglaston Village. The GreenMarket features 10 vendors who provide locally-grown vegetables, fruit, artisanal cheeses and meats, seafood and delicious baked goods. The Green Market has proven a tremendous success with both vendors and residents during the first month of operation. |

Douglaston Village Strategic Plan
In June 2011, the DLDC retained the services of the Downtown Revitalization Group consulting team led by Dadras Architects of NYC, nationally recognized Main Street revitalization experts, to prepare a Strategic Action Plan for the revitalization of the Douglaston Village area. The goal of the plan is to create a direction for the development of Douglaston Village. The first phase of the Plan includes the survey & documentation of existing buildings and resources, documentation of all previous community visioning efforts including opinion surveys, analysis of existing zoning, public meetings and workshops with the community, and preparation of a written Strategic Action Plan. The plan remains critical in 2015 as we try to develop the community and use it to guide our priorities, such as the Douglaston Station Plaza. |
